October 24th, 2024
Today, October 24, is Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. On this day, we recognize and celebrate the dedication and exceptional skills of Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECEs). These educators play a crucial role in the growth and learning of thousands of students across the region.
Supporting and Serving Families
The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is committed to provide high-quality child care for every family who needs it. As part of our commitment to more affordable childcare, we licensed our board operated programs in September 2022. This means thousands of families will benefit from the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) agreement. It will see fees reduced to an average of $10 per day by March 2026. This work would not be possible without Designated Early Childhood Educators.
DECEs are essential in shaping and guiding young minds every single day. DECEs help students reach their full potential in a safe, fair, and inclusive learning environment. They do this through:
- Age-appropriate programs
- Play-based child-centered learning
“October 24 is Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. Today and every day we extend our thanks and appreciation to our Designated Early Childhood Educators who are committed to our youngest learners,” says Melissa Hilton, Extended Day Program Manager at the WRDSB. “DECEs bring their knowledge, skills and experiences to the kindergarten program and Before and After school care. We value the caring responsive relationships you build with children and families. Your understanding of curriculum and pedagogy in early years settings is so appreciated. Our classrooms and schools are a better place because you are here.”
To WRDSB DECEs: Your work is valued and appreciated! Thank you for nurturing and teaching our youngest learners. You make the classroom a safe and welcoming space to learn and grow.
