The mindfulness partnership between Tait Street Public School and Cambridge Memorial Hospital was initiated and led by a grade 4 student, Cooper Kreller. Cooper had listened to many conversations between his mother and Dr. Abrams, founder of the Dr. Bird Foundation, encouraging social responsibility, kindness, and love. In a kick-off assembly, Cooper challenged our students to colour mandalas, write thank you cards to the hospital staff, and write get well cards to patients.  When Cooper collected the mandalas and cards at our celebration assembly, he counted them and found he had over 650 different mandalas and cards.  The students and staff were inspired to meet Cooper’s challenge as it neatly meshes with our school focus on student and staff well-being.

Cooper’s initiative has sparked Tait Street to start its own mandala and gratitude wall.  Dr. Abrams and Ms. Kreller were key supporters in this collaboration and we look forward to challenging other schools and creating more mandalas and cards for the hospital staff and patients.  We look forward to many more opportunities to partner with the Dr. Bird Foundation as its core values, when put into action, benefits not only our kids, but the community as a whole.

Thank you to Dr. Abrams, Ms. Kreller and Cooper for taking the risk to lead this partnership.
