June 24th, 2026
With the end of the 2025-2026 school year nearly upon us, we would like to share our congratulations to all Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) students, staff, parents, families and caregivers.
Each day, WRDSB students brought energy, excitement and enthusiasm to their learning. Supported by skilled, caring and dedicated educators and staff, they were equipped with the skills and knowledge they needed to reach key milestones in their learning journeys. We hope that each of you can take a moment to appreciate the role you played in making this possible. Together, we make WRDSB schools places where every student has the opportunity to experience success, and know that they belong.
Students of all ages were supported in building foundational skills and understandings of mathematics, supported by educators who are guided by the WRDSB Math Achievement Action Plan. This learning is helping students take their knowledge from theoretical to practical application, such as a Waterloo Collegiate Institute (WCI) student whose project on bioplastics was recognized at the Canada-Wide Science Fair.
Dedicated educators and staff, supported by the WRDSB Structured Literacy Multi-Year Plan, are helping students gain crucial literacy skills, and spark a passion for reading and writing. We see students benefitting from a consistent strategy where every teacher is working towards a common goal.
We are proud of all the wonderful learning opportunities, events and activities provided by WRDSB staff and students this year. Please take the opportunity to read the Student Voice and Alumni stories to hear the many ways that WRDSB is providing students with a quality education to help them be successful in their future pathways.
Last September, we welcomed students for the first time to Willow River Public School in Kitchener, and this coming September we look forward to doing the same for students at our newest Southeast Cambridge Elementary School. We are excited to see this new school community grow and flourish as students and staff arrive at this joint campus.
The end of the school year means we will also bid farewell to Student Trustees Kaur and Trivedi. We share our gratitude for their contributions in the Board Room, but most importantly for their commitment to serving as a voice for all WRDSB students when it comes to making decisions that impact their educational experiences. We look forward to working alongside incoming Student Trustees Anuraj and Yoo in the upcoming school year, as they bring student voice to the Board table.
This year, we had the opportunity to hear from students, staff, parents, families, caregivers and community members about the WRDSB Strategic Plan. Through online surveys, focus groups, as well as in-person and virtual community consultations, we were able to gather input that will help guide the path ahead. Led by the Board of Trustees, in the 2026-2027 school year we will begin the work to create a new Multi-Year Strategic Plan, incorporating the feedback we heard from you.
Over the next two months, we hope that you find opportunities to recharge and rest, and return in September ready for another exciting year of excellence in supporting student learning and achievement in the WRDSB.
For the students who are graduating this year, we wish you success as you step out into the world, whether that means moving on to employment, university, college, travel, or beginning an apprenticeship. For the students who will be returning to school in September, we hope that you are able to find time during the next two months to connect with your friends and family, relax, and do the things that you enjoy most.
We wish parents, families and caregivers of WRDSB students a joy-filled and safe summer with your children. Thank you for your partnership in supporting their learning, growth and success this school year.
We can’t wait to see you all again on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
With our sincere thanks,
Maedith Radlein
