Tait St. P.S. Canada 150 Celebrations

Dates:  Thursday, May 4, 2017 and Thursday May 11, 2017

Location:  Tait St. Public School

Tait Street Public School is marking the 150th anniversary of Confederation with 2 days of celebration.   May 4th will be a day of rotating activities for our students followed by a food truck “Confederation Chow Down” supper and “barn” dance for our families.  A week later our students will perform 2 concerts of Canadian folk songs in our beautiful new gym at 2 pm and 7 pm.

May 4th Daytime Rotating Activities:

Workshop 1: Rocks and Rings- curling instruction

The Egg Farmers “Rocks & Rings” presented by Curling Canada program will lead various drills, relays and team-building activities to introduce students to the sport of curling. It is a highly interactive program with an emphasis on fun!

Workshop 2: Story Telling

Judy Caulfield and Brenda Byers from the Baden Storyteller’s Guild will tell folk tales, tall tales and true tales about Our Canada sprinkled through with songs.  Hear stories from the Sasquatch to The Skunk in Tante Odette’s Oven.

Workshop 3: Mad Science

Mad Science will present workshops focusing on science and engineering practice with a special Canadian focus.

Workshop 4: Textile Art

A collaborative textile art project will be constructed in partnership with Busy Hands Quilters Guild of Cambridge to commemorate this event. The project will incorporate the Canada 150 logo and every student in the school will contribute to the construction. The finished artwork will be hung at Tait Street P.S. for all to admire upon completion.

Evening Activities:

5:00 pm- 6:30 pm- Confederation Chow Down

Local food trucks will serve delicious Canadian food favourites to families in the tarmac area outside the Tait gym. Menu items include grilled cheese toasties, ice cream and of course, poutine!

6:30- 7:30- Canada Day in May Hoe-Down.

The Fiddlesticks Band with caller Bill Russell will once again lead this fun-filled family dance.  Come and kick up your heels to the beautiful Canadian fiddle tunes!

May 11th:  Canadian “Campfire” Concerts- Tait St. P.S. Gym

We certainly have “Something to sing about, this land of ours!”  The Tait St. P.S. students will be performing Canadian classic folk songs for our families and friends at 2 pm and 7 pm in our beautiful new gym.  Come gather around our “campfire” and listen to our talented Tait ensembles including the ukulele and bucket drum clubs and primary, junior and Kodaly choirs.  Everyone is welcome to join us for our campfire sing-along before we all paddle home.
